NEW YORK –
New York City police say two officers have been shot during an apparent armed robbery in Queens.
The New York City PBA tweeted that one of the officers has died.
The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at a store in the Richmond Hill section of Queens.
Police tweeted that people should expect a police presence and heavy traffic and that they should avoid the area.
Mayor Bill de Blasio is at the hospital to be with the officers and their families.
In December, a police officer on Staten Island was hit by friendly fire as officers responding to a domestic dispute call shot and killed a man carrying a knife.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
